Dog Is My CoPilot Partners With Us to Save Shelter Dogs in Texas

We Partner Up to Save dogs out of high kill shelters in Texas.

An unprecedented opportunity to rescue more dogs, and how you can help.

Since 2018, Path of Hope has served our mission of rescuing mother dogs and puppies from Texas animal shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia.

The success of our operation lies in arranging transport for as many dogs as possible from Texas, where so many dogs go homeless or end up in overcrowded, high-kill shelters.

We bring these dogs to the Pacific Northwest and place them in safe foster care where they get ready to join the many families who wait with loving arms to adopt a deserving pup to share their lives with.

To date, we have rescued over 1,000 dogs… no small feat! We depend on a hard-working army of volunteers to make this happen.

However, no matter how many dogs we save, there will always be more who need saving. The PHR motto is “Every Dog. Wanted.”, and everyday we are driven to create a world where this might become reality.

It takes a big, big village to rescue and foster dogs and find them loving, forever homes. Currently the ‘village’ of PHR is blessed with nearly 140 volunteers, all using their special skills and talents to change the fate of dogs in the South who face such alarming odds of never having even their basic needs met.

And we have our generous adoptive families that are so enthusiastic about bringing these doggos into loving, safe homes and introducing them to a world where they don’t have to live unsheltered or fight for food or be under constant threat of injury, disease, or death.

Recently, our village expanded in a profound way when we were approached by a large municipal shelter in Texas that shares with us the desire to transport at-risk dogs from Texas. Austin Pets Alive has an average intake of 5,000 animals a year. Like most Texas shelters, many of these are dogs.

While their facility can comfortably house 75 dogs in kennels, they usually have 200 at a time. This means that half of the dogs must stay outside and the other half inside, where they don’t have air conditioning. Like many Texas shelters, pop up kennels line the hallways and office spaces.

While this shelter’s stats may sound bleak, their story has a silver lining! They recently partnered with a charity organization that enables them to fly dogs from Texas to an airport near PHR on a regular basis—with no cost to them or us! The dogs come to Washington with all of their health transport requirements complete.

This exciting new partnership came into fruition on May 1st when Dog is my Copilot flew 6 brave doggos from Austin Pets Alive in Texas to the Coeur d'Alene airport.

These 6 dogs were nearing their euthanasia date and they are now safely acclimating to their new environment and thriving in our care– ready to find Foster families until they find their future homes. An amazing feat and we are so grateful for this partnership!

Now, here’s where you come in…

As we continue this partnership and watch it grow, we will be in need of LOCAL transport teams, foster families, and, most importantly, adoptive fur-parents.
